Are You Ready for 20/30?

By Abby Middleton

Do you feel that? There’s a chill in the air, the studios are buzzing, and the studio managers are getting hyped. You know what that means… 20/30 is here! Are you ready?!

If you’re new here, you may be asking, “What the heck is 20/30?” Totally fair. 20/30 is our annual challenge: take 20 classes in 30 days. Complete the challenge and you’ll be entered into a drawing to win all sorts of good stuff, including a FREE year of Power Life! (How great would that be!?)

But ask anyone who’s been around Power Life for a while and they’ll tell you this challenge is about so much more than prizes. Yes, getting your membership covered is amazing, but 20/30 is really an opportunity to reinvigorate your routine, reconnect with yourself, and find your fire.

You’ve got the next 30-ish days to challenge yourself to take 20 classes at Power Life. So how can you prepare and take care of yourself along the way? Follow the tips below and you’re sure to have your best challenge yet.

  • Hydrate: This is always step one! Make sure you stay hydrated. Need a little extra boost? We sell LMNT packets at the front desk of every studio.
  • Make a plan: Classes tend to fill up during the challenge, so plan ahead to get into the classes you want. Remember:
    • Standard Memberships can book 7 days in advance
    • Premium Memberships can book 10 days in advance
    • Non-members can book 5 days in advance (Ready to take the leap? Sign up for a membership here!)
  • Try something new: Can’t get into your usual class? Take it as a sign to mix it up! Maybe you didn’t know you’d love Barre, or maybe your body will thank you for a Restore class. Every class counts. Challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone.
  • Hydrate: (again), worth repeating.
  • Be kind and welcoming! Classes will be busy, so show kindness to fellow students and our staff. We’re doing everything we can to make this challenge awesome for everyone.
  • Fuel your body: 20/30 is physically demanding, so be sure to fuel up before class. Check out this blog post for recipe inspiration!
  • Embrace grace when things don’t go your way: Maybe you can’t make your usual class time. Maybe 20 classes won’t happen for you this year and that’s OKAY. Listen to your body, give yourself grace, and be kind to yourself.
  • Celebrate when things DO go your way! You deserve to pat yourself on the back for showing up, pushing through a tough class, or hitting a milestone. Don’t be afraid to let out a whoop! Find your star, take a selfie, and celebrate!

Remember that we are here to support your journey throughout the challenge! Questions? Feel free to reach out. Need some encouragement? We are here to cheer you on! Get out there, take on the challenge, and Find Your Fire!

About Kirk:

Kirk was working 80-hour weeks and wearing his shoulders as earrings when he found yoga in 2005. Forever the competitive athlete, he loved the physicality of yoga. When the spiritual and philosophical side of yoga were exposed to him, Kirk was hooked. Yoga provided him with what other activities couldn’t -- the ability to foster the benefits of practice both on and off of the mat. Yoga was something that Kirk could bring into all aspects of his life.

Kirk knows that yoga can be intimidating, so he crafts a class that is playful and inviting, while still being challenging and safe. His creatively planned classes build strength and flexibility in your body and mind while establishing clarity, giving you more confidence to overcome obstacles in your life, and keeping you injury-free. His classes are themed with a message that is relatable and will inspire you to take it with you off your mat. Kirk has been teaching yoga since 2008 and lead his first teacher training in 2012. Where Kirk truly shines is in coaching, developing and bringing out the best in others.

Kirk enjoys traveling (40+ countries to date!), snowboarding, and cherishes time with his wife and two daughters.

About Christen:

Christen Bakken’s yoga journey began in 1998 in a Bikram studio that provided a safe and secure place to practice. She saw the yoga mat as a place to remember her purpose and a place to play. As she continued her studies and began her journey to teaching in 2006, Christen infused yoga classes with devotion and the yoga mat became a place of personal transformation and healing. Her classes are filled with laughter, song, sweat, and usually heart openers. In 2013, Christen began training yoga teachers. This is the place where she finds the most joy - in community with folks looking to grow and be of greater service in their homes, on their mats, and in the world. Over the years, she has led trainings in Denver, the Midwest, Florida, and now abroad. She has trained in continuing education modules, 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour programs. Beyond the mat, Christen is a passionate adventure seeker - she loves to bike, snowboard, and spend time with her husband and pups. She sees each day as a blessing and hopes to remind all who interact with her of this truth.
