Am I going to sweat?

The short answer? Probably, yes. We suggest wearing lightweight, comfortable workout attire that you feel comfortable moving in and don’t mind getting sweaty. Stay hydrated during class. Bring a water bottle or buy one from us for $2. A hand towel or shower towel might also be helpful for sweaty palms or feet. We also have those available to rent at the front desk.

What if I need to take a break during class?

We get it! It’s important to listen to your body, and sometimes your body needs a breather. It is always okay to take a quick break during class in child’s pose.

Can I shower at Power Life after class?

Of course! Our changing rooms have lockers, showers and lavatories for students’ use. We encourage students to leave all their belongings in the locker room, we also have locks available upon request at the front desk.

Please keep in mind that studio doors will lock 20 minutes after class. We kindly ask that you limit your time in the locker room. Thank you for helping us respect our teachers time!

I’m a complete beginner. Can I do Power Yoga?

Absolutely. We want beginners to come and experience everything Power Life has to offer. All of our classes are open to all levels, but our Power 1 class is a great place to start. This is a semi-heated, beginner level class that provides instruction to proper posture alignment and is a good introduction to Power Yoga.

I’m not flexible. Can I do yoga?

You donā€™t have to be flexible to start a yoga practice. Flexibility is something that Power Yoga builds for you. It is a journey not a destination.

Will workouts at Power Life be physically challenging?

Our classes are based in Power Yoga, which is a fast-paced and challenging type of yoga. It’s not just stretching in a hot room! Power Yoga is a physical practice that combines all facets of physical fitness and healthy well-being. We have taken traditional yoga and made it faster, harder and way more fun ā€“ but we certainly have not left out the mental aspects. Get ready to sweat and challenge your body and mind in new ways.

Can you tell me more about the heat?

The majority of our classes are taught in a heated or semi-heated room. We really like it HOT, but trust that there is intention for the temperature of each class type. We also train our teachers how to control the heat for the safety of all students. Benefits of practicing in a heated environment include: It helps stretch muscle fibers; It aids in injury prevention; It helps eliminate toxins from the body; It increases your heart rate for added challenge; It enhances your metabolism.

What are the benefits of practicing Power Yoga?

Well, there truly are countless benefits from starting a yoga practice of any kind! Power Yoga, in particular, works the entire body and improves strength, balance, flexibility, core power and mental wellbeing. The physical improvements are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Power Yoga. Other benefits include stress reduction, increased blood circulation, detoxification and improved sleep.

My child wants to attend class with me. Is that allowed?

If your child is between 12-16 years of age, he or she can attend class with you or another adult. As with any workout, however, we encourage you to consult a physician about the effects of the heat before bringing your child to any class.

Do teachers offer hands-on assists?

Our instructors are encouraged to offer hands-on assists during all classes. If you are interested in receiving assists, grab one of the assisting cards from the holder near the back of your classroom and place it at the top of your mat. At the end of class, place your card back into the holder so a member of our staff can disinfect it. If you are not interested in receiving hands-on assists, there is no need to do anything. Your instructor will respect your wishes and encourage you in other ways throughout class. If youā€™d like to learn more about how and why we assist at Power Life, check out this blog post.

What should I wear to class?

We suggest wearing lightweight, comfortable workout attire that you feel comfortable moving in and donā€™t mind getting sweaty.

About Kirk:

Kirk was working 80-hour weeks and wearing his shoulders as earrings when he found yoga in 2005. Forever the competitive athlete, he loved the physicality of yoga. When the spiritual and philosophical side of yoga were exposed to him, Kirk was hooked. Yoga provided him with what other activities couldnā€™t -- the ability to foster the benefits of practice both on and off of the mat. Yoga was something that Kirk could bring into all aspects of his life.

Kirk knows that yoga can be intimidating, so he crafts a class that is playful and inviting, while still being challenging and safe. His creatively planned classes build strength and flexibility in your body and mind while establishing clarity, giving you more confidence to overcome obstacles in your life, and keeping you injury-free. His classes are themed with a message that is relatable and will inspire you to take it with you off your mat. Kirk has been teaching yoga since 2008 and lead his first teacher training in 2012. Where Kirk truly shines is in coaching, developing and bringing out the best in others.

Kirk enjoys traveling (40+ countries to date!), snowboarding, and cherishes time with his wife and two daughters.

About Christen:

Christen Bakkenā€™s yoga journey began in 1998 in a Bikram studio that provided a safe and secure place to practice. She saw the yoga mat as a place to remember her purpose and a place to play. As she continued her studies and began her journey to teaching in 2006, Christen infused yoga classes with devotion and the yoga mat became a place of personal transformation and healing. Her classes are filled with laughter, song, sweat, and usually heart openers. In 2013, Christen began training yoga teachers. This is the place where she finds the most joy - in community with folks looking to grow and be of greater service in their homes, on their mats, and in the world. Over the years, she has led trainings in Denver, the Midwest, Florida, and now abroad. She has trained in continuing education modules, 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour programs. Beyond the mat, Christen is a passionate adventure seeker - she loves to bike, snowboard, and spend time with her husband and pups. She sees each day as a blessing and hopes to remind all who interact with her of this truth.
