Whether itās the early sunrises, muggy temps, neighborhood pools opening, or daylight past 8pm ā itās obvious that summer is back in the Midwest!Ā All these changes warrant a closet flip, cooler temps in our studios, and a switch up in the cosmetics you throw in your gym bag or purse. To celebrate the start of summer, I wanted to share seven of my favorite summer beauty recs (which by the way, was so difficult to narrow down!). Our ultimate goal with these recommendations? To make sure you have all the best products to keep you cool and protected while looking AND feeling your best!
Supergoop Mineral Powder Sunscreen! This is the perfect product to throw in any bag no matter what youāre up to on a summer day. While it shouldnāt be the only SPF on your face, itās a quick and easy way to reset your makeup after a sweaty Power Life class, get some extra protection before taking a walk outside over your lunch break, or doing a quick touch up after sitting pool side for a couple hours. This product is a little pricey but lasts for a long time and made with clean ingredients!
Face Ice Roller. These are the best! While itās not as easy to throw into a bag for later, this is a must-have for cooling off whether youāre post-P2 in 92-degree heat or cooling off from being outside. These are also great first thing in the morning for reducing any puffiness and redness. Ice rollers can also help muscles that may be sore which helps support quicker recovery after stretching. A perfect excuse to get two š
Hair wax stick. If thereās one thing that is a guarantee in summer no matter where in the Midwest you are, itās that it will be SO humid. You donāt have to be at the gym to feel like youāre in the sauna! This hair wax stick is a must have if youāre looking to master the slicked back pony, have a good hair day post-workout class, or manage the frizzies when you walk outside! Itās also a great hack if you ever forget a headband or bobby pin and need help getting your hair to stay out of your eyes. There are lots of similar products out there, but this one is a personal favorite!
Easy, grab and go lip gloss. Lip products can be so challenging because of how they make your lips feel later on ā dried out, chapped, etc. Add that to being outside with the sun and hotter temps, and it makes you just want to stick with just boring chapstick! But, before we let it get to that point, Juicy Lips came in with another fave product of mine. Maracuja Juicy Lips come in a wide variety of colors/styles (gloss, matte, plumping) to be the easiest grab and go makeup product for summerā¦ or really anytime of the year. I keep different colors in different bags/purses so that I always have one on hand!
The best lotion dupe! After getting back from a fun pool or lake day, your skin is likely to feel super dry. This is why itās a need that you stock up on Trader Joesā Brazil Nut Body Butter. Itās the best dupe for Sol de Janeiro lotion which is 5x+ the price and happens to be the best excuse to head to Trader Joes at the same time. The bonus perk to this is they sell the same scent in body wash and candles! Regardless of what lotion you prefer, make sure youāre using it day and night to keep your skin feeling hydrated.
VERB Ghost Hair Oil. In the summer my hair is always thrown up on top of my head crunched up in a top knot. While itās great for helping keep me cool, itās not so great for my hair on top of chlorine from the pool or sweat from a good class earlier! A good hair oil is so helpful in keeping your hair looking and feeling hydrated while also helping with frizziness and is easy to apply while youāre getting ready or redoing your hair midday.
While you may not have all the things on this list, any combination of beauty products you have are the best excuse to get a cute, new cosmetic bag to throw everything into to help keep things organized and allow for easy transfer between your purse, gym bag, or bathroom counter. There are SO many options out there but I love a good Amazon find and thought this one was a perfect size and really cute!
There are so many amazing, grab and go products out there which made it hard to narrow down to this list. Weād love to hear your summer beauty recs and why you love them! Come share with us and fellow students before/after a Power Life class! š

Kirk was working 80-hour weeks and wearing his shoulders as earrings when he found yoga in 2005. Forever the competitive athlete, he loved the physicality of yoga. When the spiritual and philosophical side of yoga were exposed to him, Kirk was hooked. Yoga provided him with what other activities couldnāt -- the ability to foster the benefits of practice both on and off of the mat. Yoga was something that Kirk could bring into all aspects of his life.
Kirk knows that yoga can be intimidating, so he crafts a class that is playful and inviting, while still being challenging and safe. His creatively planned classes build strength and flexibility in your body and mind while establishing clarity, giving you more confidence to overcome obstacles in your life, and keeping you injury-free. His classes are themed with a message that is relatable and will inspire you to take it with you off your mat. Kirk has been teaching yoga since 2008 and lead his first teacher training in 2012. Where Kirk truly shines is in coaching, developing and bringing out the best in others.
Kirk enjoys traveling (40+ countries to date!), snowboarding, and cherishes time with his wife and two daughters.
Christen Bakkenās yoga journey began in 1998 in a Bikram studio that provided a safe and secure place to practice. She saw the yoga mat as a place to remember her purpose and a place to play. As she continued her studies and began her journey to teaching in 2006, Christen infused yoga classes with devotion and the yoga mat became a place of personal transformation and healing. Her classes are filled with laughter, song, sweat, and usually heart openers. In 2013, Christen began training yoga teachers. This is the place where she finds the most joy - in community with folks looking to grow and be of greater service in their homes, on their mats, and in the world. Over the years, she has led trainings in Denver, the Midwest, Florida, and now abroad. She has trained in continuing education modules, 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour programs. Beyond the mat, Christen is a passionate adventure seeker - she loves to bike, snowboard, and spend time with her husband and pups. She sees each day as a blessing and hopes to remind all who interact with her of this truth.
