As some of you may remember, when Power Life opened back in 2012 there was no doubt that connection was a pillar in our community. We still value connection today, it just looks a little different right now.
As a community organization whose foundation was built upon connection and movement, we feel a responsibility to provide an outlet for you to do both of those things. If you haven’t yet, we invite you to connect with us virtually through Power Life LIVE for free.
In true Power Life fashion, our online classes are real and raw… they are us. Everyday, we roll out pre-recorded content and live classes to keep you going physically and mentally. To be able to connect in a live class with someone you know, someone in your community, someone you may have even taken class with in the past is powerful.
Given the current situation throughout the world and the government’s recommendation to keep our distance until April 30, we are all being affected in some way. We have been presented with unusual challenges we never thought possible, but we will get through this together. For those who are choosing to support us through your membership, we thank you. We are overwhelmed by your generosity. With surging unemployment across the country, it is because of your support now (and over the years) that we can keep our team busy producing Power Life LIVE. If you do need to suspend your membership, please email us at email@example.com (Des Moines) or firstname.lastname@example.org (Kansas City).
To our entire community, thank you for your words of encouragement and continued strength as we navigate these unknown waters with you. We are thinking of you and your family. The time will come when we can be in the studios again, and we will be there for you when the fog lifts.
Namaste and be well,
President & Founder of Power Life

What a week, huh? We can hardly believe that just last Wednesday we hosted our first live-streamed class on our YouTube channel. It’s been a whirlwind! There is still so much uncertainty surrounding all of our lives, but we are happy to be here for our Power Live family (virtually) through it all.
We know so many people in our community have kids to educate, full-time jobs to do, meals to prep, and much more, but we hope you can set aside time for yourself to check out a class or two this week.
You can subscribe to our YouTube channel using virtually any streaming device — a smart TV, Chromecast, Fire Stick, computer, phone, or tablet. Once you do that, you can receive a notification anytime we live-stream (1-2 times per day). Plus, you can catch all of our live videos after the fact if you can’t make it for the live class. Click here to subscribe to our YouTube channel.
You know it wouldn’t be a Power Life class without a great playlist. Click the link below to access our Spotify profile. All of the class playlists are linked in our YouTube video descriptions, so all you need to do is hit play and flow. Click here to follow us on Spotify.
No props? No problem! You can use just about anything for weights. Seriously, we’ve seen it all — milk jugs, wine bottles, bricks (!), soup cans… you get the idea. As for blocks, we suggest something small and rectangular like a box or a stack of books. For a makeshift yoga strap, we like nothing fancier than a towel. If you’re missing the heat, consider pulling out a space heater. (We hope winter is behind us, so hopefully there’s no need to keep it out except for when you’re “at class”.)
If we have learned anything from this experience, it’s that the Power Life community is STRONG. Thank you all for being part of it. Stay tuned and stay healthy.

We are Power Life.
We are a community. We are a small business.
We are vulnerable. We are strong.
Every day we have been monitoring this delicate situation closely, and it was just within the last couple days that we had made the decision to stay open for those who needed us, whatever their reason may be. We intended to remain open to best serve all of you during these troubling times. However, due to the ever evolving COVID-19 situation, we have decided to temporarily close our studios starting today until Monday, April 6.
Our team has been working around the clock to make sure we are following recommendations and guidelines, while also considering the many other factors that small business owners everywhere are facing. We take our social duty very seriously, and are doing what we can with the hope to recover quickly from the effects of this virus.
As a business owner, this is one of the most challenging decisions I have ever had to make. One reason is because of the financial impact this has on our full-time team as well as instructors. We have many people on our team who do this not only because they are passionate about what they do, but also for a living. For this reason, we kindly request that you keep your membership active to support our small business. While this closing is temporary, if you must place your membership on suspension, please email email@example.com (Des Moines) or firstname.lastname@example.org (Kansas City).
Temporarily closing our doors is the best way to keep our community safe. We are in this together, and I believe that we will eventually come out of this stronger, smarter, and more determined than ever to serve our communities. Please take care of both your physical and mental health during this time, as well as that of others.
Thank you for the support and understanding you’ve shown through this. We can’t wait to see you back in the studios soon.
Namaste and be well,

Kirk was working 80-hour weeks and wearing his shoulders as earrings when he found yoga in 2005. Forever the competitive athlete, he loved the physicality of yoga. When the spiritual and philosophical side of yoga were exposed to him, Kirk was hooked. Yoga provided him with what other activities couldn’t -- the ability to foster the benefits of practice both on and off of the mat. Yoga was something that Kirk could bring into all aspects of his life.
Kirk knows that yoga can be intimidating, so he crafts a class that is playful and inviting, while still being challenging and safe. His creatively planned classes build strength and flexibility in your body and mind while establishing clarity, giving you more confidence to overcome obstacles in your life, and keeping you injury-free. His classes are themed with a message that is relatable and will inspire you to take it with you off your mat. Kirk has been teaching yoga since 2008 and lead his first teacher training in 2012. Where Kirk truly shines is in coaching, developing and bringing out the best in others.
Kirk enjoys traveling (40+ countries to date!), snowboarding, and cherishes time with his wife and two daughters.
Christen Bakken’s yoga journey began in 1998 in a Bikram studio that provided a safe and secure place to practice. She saw the yoga mat as a place to remember her purpose and a place to play. As she continued her studies and began her journey to teaching in 2006, Christen infused yoga classes with devotion and the yoga mat became a place of personal transformation and healing. Her classes are filled with laughter, song, sweat, and usually heart openers. In 2013, Christen began training yoga teachers. This is the place where she finds the most joy - in community with folks looking to grow and be of greater service in their homes, on their mats, and in the world. Over the years, she has led trainings in Denver, the Midwest, Florida, and now abroad. She has trained in continuing education modules, 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour programs. Beyond the mat, Christen is a passionate adventure seeker - she loves to bike, snowboard, and spend time with her husband and pups. She sees each day as a blessing and hopes to remind all who interact with her of this truth.
