How Teaching Lagree and Pilates Has Shaped My Approach to Movement

By Brenna Allen
I began my teaching journey as a Lagree instructor and later expanded into Pilates. While the methods are different, what attracted me to both was the unique challenge they provide. Beyond the physical workout, I was drawn to the opportunity to educate people about movement and help them develop a stronger mind-body connection.
One of the most rewarding parts of teaching has been witnessing the transformations that happen both inside and outside of the studio. Of course, members get stronger, but some of the most meaningful changes are the ones that aren’t always visible. I’ve watched people surprise themselves, gain confidence in their abilities, and become more aware of how their bodies move and feel. That increased body awareness often translates into everyday life through improved posture, better mobility, and a greater sense of control over movement.
Every person who walks into class has a different reason for showing up. Some want to build strength, some are looking to improve mobility, and others simply want an hour dedicated to themselves. Whatever their goal may be, it is incredibly special to be a small part of their journey.
One of the things I hear most often after Pilates class is, “That was harder than I expected!” While Pilates may look different from traditional strength training or high-intensity workouts, it is designed to challenge the body in a unique way. Members often leave feeling stronger, more energized, and more connected to their bodies. The roll-up is a great example of Pilates in action. It challenges strength, mobility, and coordination while teaching members how to move with greater control and awareness.
I’m especially excited that Pilates has become part of Power Life’s class offerings. Power Life already provides an incredible variety of programs, and Pilates adds another dimension to that experience. It offers members a new challenge while also helping them better understand how their bodies move and function. Pilates isn’t just about exercise; it’s about learning to move with intention, control, and confidence.
For anyone who has never tried Pilates before, my advice is simple: Expect to sweat, strengthen your core, improve your mobility, and discover muscles you didn’t know you had.
Teaching both Lagree and Pilates has reinforced something I believe deeply: movement is about so much more than exercise. It’s about building confidence, creating awareness, and helping people realize they’re capable of more than they think. I can’t wait to share that experience with the Power Life community!
