Pilates has officially entered the chat at Power Life, we could not be more excited about it!
Over the past few years, we’ve paid close attention to what our community is gravitating toward. Again and again, we’ve seen students looking for movement that feels intentional, strength focused, sustainable, and empowering. Our community wants workouts that challenge them physically while still feeling connected to breath, control, and mindfulness. That is exactly why Pilates feels like such a natural fit for us.
At Power Life, yoga will always be our foundation. It is the heartbeat of what we do. But part of honoring movement and wellness means continuing to evolve alongside the needs of our community. Pilates allows us to expand what we offer in a way that still feels deeply aligned with our mission and the way we teach.
So… why Pilates?
Because it works.
Pilates is a low impact, full body workout that focuses on core strength, stability, posture, alignment, balance, and control. It challenges the body in a completely different way than many traditional workouts. Instead of relying on momentum, Pilates asks you to slow down, move with intention, and build strength from the inside out.
And while “low impact” sometimes gets mistaken for “easy,” let us assure you… it is anything but.
Pilates creates deep muscular engagement through controlled movement patterns that strengthen not just the major muscle groups, but also the smaller stabilizing muscles that support the body long term. The result is a workout that leaves you feeling strong, energized, connected, and surprisingly challenged without the pounding, jumping, or excessive wear and tear on your joints.
One of the things we love most about Pilates is that it truly meets people where they are.
Whether you are:
Pilates has something to offer.
It is one of the reasons this format has become increasingly popular across all age groups. As we age, maintaining strength, balance, posture, coordination, and mobility becomes incredibly important and Pilates supports all those things beautifully. It helps people move better in everyday life, not just inside the studio.
At Power Life specifically, we’ve designed our Hot Pilates classes to feel approachable, intentional, and uniquely ours.
Our classes blend traditional Pilates principles with modern strength-based sequencing in a heated room designed to help the body move and open more freely. Expect controlled movement, core focused work, intentional progressions, light weights and props, and an emphasis on breath and mind body connection.
If you love the intentional movement and energy of yoga, but want to build more strength and stability, Pilates may become your new favorite class. And if you already love strength training, Pilates may completely change the way you connect to your body.
What excites us most is not just adding another workout to the schedule. It is creating another opportunity for people to feel strong, capable, empowered, and supported in their bodies for the long haul.
That has always been the goal.
We truly believe Pilates is going to become an incredible complement to our current offerings and an important part of helping people move well for life.
We cannot wait for you to experience it with us.

Kirk was working 80-hour weeks and wearing his shoulders as earrings when he found yoga in 2005. Forever the competitive athlete, he loved the physicality of yoga. When the spiritual and philosophical side of yoga were exposed to him, Kirk was hooked. Yoga provided him with what other activities couldn’t -- the ability to foster the benefits of practice both on and off of the mat. Yoga was something that Kirk could bring into all aspects of his life.
Kirk knows that yoga can be intimidating, so he crafts a class that is playful and inviting, while still being challenging and safe. His creatively planned classes build strength and flexibility in your body and mind while establishing clarity, giving you more confidence to overcome obstacles in your life, and keeping you injury-free. His classes are themed with a message that is relatable and will inspire you to take it with you off your mat. Kirk has been teaching yoga since 2008 and lead his first teacher training in 2012. Where Kirk truly shines is in coaching, developing and bringing out the best in others.
Kirk enjoys traveling (40+ countries to date!), snowboarding, and cherishes time with his wife and two daughters.
Christen Bakken’s yoga journey began in 1998 in a Bikram studio that provided a safe and secure place to practice. She saw the yoga mat as a place to remember her purpose and a place to play. As she continued her studies and began her journey to teaching in 2006, Christen infused yoga classes with devotion and the yoga mat became a place of personal transformation and healing. Her classes are filled with laughter, song, sweat, and usually heart openers. In 2013, Christen began training yoga teachers. This is the place where she finds the most joy - in community with folks looking to grow and be of greater service in their homes, on their mats, and in the world. Over the years, she has led trainings in Denver, the Midwest, Florida, and now abroad. She has trained in continuing education modules, 200-hour, 300-hour, and 500-hour programs. Beyond the mat, Christen is a passionate adventure seeker - she loves to bike, snowboard, and spend time with her husband and pups. She sees each day as a blessing and hopes to remind all who interact with her of this truth.
